Sully Pinos | Emerge Pennsylvania

Class of 2016

Sully PinosAs a Brooklyn native, Sully Pinos found herself immersed in the city that never sleeps at a young age. New York City’s endless opportunities and thriving political community helped fuel her interests in working in politics. Shortly after receiving her Bachelor’s Degree in Government from St. John’s University in 2011, Sully found herself working on President Obama’s reelection campaign as a field organizer in York, Pennsylvania. Sully oversaw the Central Pennsylvania Obama For America (OFA) grassroots outreach and voter registration efforts. Her hard work and dedicated spirit paid off. Not only was President Obama re-elected, a success Sully attributes greatly to her work in Central PA, she had the surreal and difficult task of coordinating an event to host Vice President Joe Biden at the West York Senior High.

At the conclusion of her work with the OFA, Sully realized that she had developed an addictive appetite and passion for politics. The opportunity to directly help and positively impact individual lives is a profound opportunity. Accordingly, Sully attributes a personal mantra of “helping other people” as one of the simplest but noblest reasons we are placed on this Earth.

Fortuitously, on Election Night in November of 2012, Sully had the opportunity to meet then York’s Economic and Community Development Director Kevin Schreiber. Kevin immediately recognized Sully’s passion for the York community and her dedication to her work and towards assisting others. Schreiber announced a candidacy for the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in January of 2013 and was asked to serve as Schreiber’s Campaign Manager. Upon Schreiber’s victory, Sully was requested to join Kevin’s fight in the House of Representatives as his Chief of Staff. Today, she continues her great work on behalf of the York community and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, alongside State Representative Kevin Schreiber. Sully oversees a staff of four and office budget of over $30,000 and manages all of the legislative activities in both Harrisburg and the York District Office.

Never to rest, Sully remains very active throughout the community. As an alumni member of her sorority, Hermandad de Sigma Iota Alpha Inc., she advises other undergraduate members in the area and organizes community service events and outreach opportunities for the sorority. She sits on the Board of Directors for the York County Hispanic Coalition, Community Progress Council, Planned Parenthood Keystone and the York County Literacy Council. Sully will serve as a mentor for the freshmen class of William Penn senior High School starting in January 2016. Sully is a provisional member of the Junior League of York and a member of “TeamFOX” of the Michael J. Fox Foundation to raise money for Parkinson’s research, a disease that has personally affected Sully’s family. She has 5 half marathons to her credit, to honor her grandfather, with more to come in 2016. Sully resides in the City of York with her adorable two doggies, Sandy and Luigi.
